I’m going to make a video soon to explain why i’ve decided to start sharing my journey, but until then, I guess i’ll write another blog post.
Yesterday, I had my first swimming lesson. I started talking about doing a triathlon over 3 years ago. Three years goes really quick, eh? It’s amazing how many excuses you can make in 3 years.
As I woke up yesterday morning, I actually felt nervous. It’s funny, it’s like, when I have to try and do something new I get really scared, and for a long time, backed out of doing it. It sounds sad, but there are a lot of things I have backed out of doing.
Anyway, so I showed up to the pool, and made sure to let the instructors know that I wasn’t very good, and hadn’t got in to a pool for about 15 years, and it was going to take a really long time for me to be able to do anything etc etc.
At the beginning of the lesson, we had to do a little test to see what we could do. Basically, I did well in the test, and the head instructor gave me a one on one lesson.
After a bit of training on how to breathe properly in the water, I was able to swim one full length with no issues. This was after about 10 – 15 minutes in the pool.
Isn’t that crazy!?! The instructor told me that after a couple of lessons to perfect my breathing technique, I should be good to start training on my own. She also said (and this one hurt inside), if I had started swimming lessons 3 years ago, I would have probably been swimming triathlon distances already.
It sucks that I have been making excuses all these years, and yet if I had started sooner, I would have been swimming in triathlons already.
So, my question to you – is there anything you’ve been putting off that actually, if you’d started sooner, you might have been good at? Something that, really isn’t going to be that bad?
It might be time to start doing it.
